Ocean Chinese Take Away

Been using Ocean for the last 25 years and honestly love the place, the food is always spot on, the lady who serves has been there as long as I can remember & she’s fabulous. Their special curry, or chicken/mushroom curry is delicious, Singapore chow mein can’t be beaten, ribs yum, sweet/sour chicken Hong Kong style is soooo good! I could go on. Thank you for many happy years x

First of all the lady who serves is incredibly rude. She got really quite nasty when I made a point that they didn’t have a takeaway menu! Her reply was a snapped “they cost too much”. So... the food, it was quite simply awful. As someone else has alluded to already, the duck was dry and inedible. The curry was salty and gloopy with lumps in it. The chicken content was very mean and the the portion was 90% onion! A cheapskate trick. The fried noodles we had ordered were all burnt with shards of hard black burnt food ??? Off the wok? Not sure but it wasn’t eaten. I rang and complained to be met with a tirade of abuse from the ill tempered woman who slammed the phone down! Lastly, I reckon this Chinese takeaway is 10-20% more expensive than most. Overall it was an awful experience and I will not return.

First of all, woman immediately made it clear that credit card costs too much money for her to process, and it must be a debit card, immediately made me feel uncomfortable. I placed the order and said i’d be back in 10 minutes. When i returned she made a passing comment “i thought you wasnt coming back” it was 9minutes i was gone for. Now to the food… Chicken balls the size of nuggets, only 6 in a box, horrible. Beef in black bean sauce was a gloopy mess, hardly any beef. Disgusting. Overpriced and taking short cuts on food quality. Outrageous that you can charge the money you do for that food. Will never be using again.

Having been a customer of this establishment for around 25 years, which still has the original ownership and people involved, I can say that during those years the food served has been enjoyed by my wife and myself, and sometimes our family many times over. One or two hiccups along the way when for some reason we thought that our food was not of their usual standard. It was a rare occurrence and having sampled other Chinese establishments offering we soon went back Ocean. We knew that overall Ocean was hard to beat.

Ordered Beef & Cashew nuts. Sadly beef had very little flavour, however this may of been due to the gravy which unlike most beef and cashew gravy that is a rich substantial gravy, this poured from the tray with the consistency of water...
