Finally this market has made its comeback. Its been great so far, good selection of stalls. Maybe needs a few more foodies for the humans but if you've got dogs they will love the many dog stalls.
The Humber Bridge is, at least at first glance, a polished jewel of British engineering—lofty cables rising with aristocratic confidence while the Humber glides beneath like a well-behaved guest at a garden party. The whole structure carries itself with sophistication, as though it were above the ordinary business of people in coats taking photographs and seagulls loitering for chips. I decided to go fishing from this supposedly refined monument, imagining a peaceful contest with nature. Peaceful it was not. I hooked a colossal fish, a proper leviathan that fought with the manners of a drunken bouncer. My triumph lasted roughly three seconds before I realised my fishing rope was uselessly short, leaving me stranded on the bridge shaking my fist while the monster flapped about just out of reach. The bridge might be long, but apparently my equipment had not received the memo. Yet none of this compared with the rage induced by the price I had to pay. £1.50 to cross—£1.50! For what exactly? For the honour of breathing expensive bridge air? Who on earth wakes up and thinks, “Yes, today I shall happily hand over £1.50 for a quick stroll on some steel”? It is a miserly, irritating little toll that feels personally designed to sour a day out. I was not happy about paying it, and the fish debacle only made it feel like I’d funded my own humiliation. So my review of the Humber Bridge is mixed: impressive to look at, ridiculous to fish from, and downright offensive in its cheeky demand for £1.50. Next time I’ll bring a longer rope—and I certainly won’t bring any goodwill for that thieving price.
Great monthly market. As others have noted, it's more craft-focused than the name would suggest, but there's a fair amount of foodie bits on offer (bread, spreads and preserves, sweet baked goods). Well worth a look, even when absolutely packed, just expect a lot of navigating through crowds of people and pets.
This is not a farmers market by definition.. The whole idea of a farmers market is to bring local produces to the masses at a reasonable price. Basically cut out the middleman”big supermarket chains” However it isn’t the case at the Humber Bridge farmers market it is a free for all for local entrepreneurs to have your eyes out. The majority of the stalls are crafted and alcohol selling stalls and the food that is locally sourced are the butchery is more expensive than the supermarket. The market has become pointless and not fit for purpose and today was my last visit to it and I would not recommend it to anybody.
Lots of fresh meats, fruit and veg stalls. Hand made pies, pastries and sweet treats. Independent beer and spirits. Great hand crafted gifts and garden accessories. Plant stalls. Hot food and refreshments. 15 minutes walk from Hessle square or train station. Can get very busy.
