Alcuin Lodge Guest House - York

Stayed for 4 nights in October 2021. A wonderful guest house, everything was perfect. Darren was a lovely host and the Covid protocols that were in place made everything feel safe and incredibly clean. Loved the little touches like home baked goods in the rooms. They accommodated my mum's gluten free diet with no issues at all. Breakfast was perfect and I liked being able to order it the day before.. Just a 10 minute walk to the main city centre as well.

This is the perfect place to stay in York! Great location, quiet area but walking distance to all the key attractions. Darren is so welcoming and has everything in place to cope with covid. The house is scrupulously clean, distances observed and an online form for booking your breakfast (which was excellent by the way) Nice touch of having a home baked treat each day too Would definitely come and stay again and would recommend

Beautifully designed spacious rooms with great attention to details. Bed was super comfortable! We just loved it and hope to be back. Darren is a great host, very professional and knowledgeable about his town. Breakfast was made to order and very good.

What can I say, I cannot recommend Alcuin Lodge any higher otherwise I would! This is the second time we have stayed here and this was because the first time was so good. Darren is the perfect host and add to this the location, the fact you can leave your car there all weekend, the facilities and cleanliness... it really is the perfect stay. Myself and my partner got engaged while staying there and it was mentioned during breakfast. When we came back to our room that evening, to our surprise, was a home baked cake in the shape of a love heart...if that doesn't say it all then nothing does. Its more than exceptional thats too cold a term, its a lovely warm, friendly and welcoming place to stay plus all the other pluses. Thanks Darren we will definitely be back!!

Alcuin Lodge was the perfect place for our staycation. Darren was so welcoming and helpful, offering us recommendations and even asking us about the new restaurant we tried out. He clearly loves York and it shines through in the care he and Mark take of this guest house. My friend and I booked the twin room; it was prepared even though we arrived early, fully stocked with tea and coffee - and even came with a welcoming gift of baked goods! (Which would give local bakeries a run for their money.) It was pristine with the necessary facilities, and was a ten-minute walk from The Shambles. There's no time constraints (except, of course, when checking out), so you can come back late if you want to; just remember to be respectful of other occupants. If you order before 7:30pm, you can have breakfast here the next day - possibly a good shout when it's raining. The poached eggs were perfect. :) I hope to return to York one day and will definitely come back to Alcuin Lodge; I strongly recommend the same for anyone else!
