We had the most magical stay at Secret Valley Escapes in Holmfirth. My best friend Emma and I were looking for a retreat that combined the peace of the outdoors with the comfort of modern amenities, and this was everything we hoped for and more. Emma’s husband had visited with friends a few weeks earlier and recommended it to us—what a perfect choice it turned out to be! The safari tents are beautifully set up with everything you could need: cosy beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and lovely touches that make it feel both rustic and luxurious. The outdoor grill and kitchen meant we could cook proper meals, and we loved spending evenings with our own drinks on the porch before sinking into the hot tub under the stars—it truly felt like a dream. Our hosts were so kind and thoughtful, even arranging for our bags to be taken up by quad bike, which was such a fun and memorable touch. The grounds themselves are stunning, with serene lakes and water features that create a wonderfully calming atmosphere. Beyond the site, we discovered incredible hiking trails around Netherthong and along the old railway line, making this an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. Everything about our stay was exactly what we were looking for: relaxation, adventure, and comfort all in one. Thank you so much to our wonderful hosts for making our trip so special—we can’t wait to come back!
Secret Valley Escapes is a lovely setting and nicely presented accommodation and service from the staff..the facilities are good and more than acceptable for what you are getting. Loved using the pizza oven and the hot tub was very clean and worked great. The fishing was good fun also. Unfortunately the location is not so remote and the traffic on the 2 roads encompassing the site was rather intrusive through all hours of the weekend. Even early and late Sunday there was a significant amount of traffic and due to the hills the vehicles are more noisy than usual going up and down hill. Otherwise it was a great stay and well cared for by the hosts.
This was a trip for me and my two little boys and we absolutely loved every second. Dave was a fantastic host and made sure our stay was as good as possible. I highly recommend this place to anyone.
We spent a week here with two young children, and had a wonderful time. Dave was a great host: helpful and generous but relaxed, and left us to our own devices unless we contacted him. We had the place to ourselves for several days, which was lovely, though with only one other tent it's never going to be too busy. The safari tents/den was very well built and equipped, with lovely hot shower, fridge, compost toilet (with amazingly effective extractor fan!), electric lighting, 4 ring gas hob, indoor biofuel fire. We had quite a mixture of weather, so we were very grateful for all of that, but could sit out with a fire under the stars when it dried up. The hot tub was great in the rain too. It's a lovely spot, and not too far to pubs, nice walks. Would love to return one day! EDIT: Our kids kept asking, so two years later we came back for another week in July 2025! And it was just as great second time, with our own hot tub added to the Deer Croft, which we used pretty much every day. And a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, about 30 minute drive away, but other than that we stayed local.
What a fantastic experience for a family. The glamping tents were amazing and were better than I expected, they were clean, tidy and gave a luxury feel to camping. The hosts were great, so welcoming, making my family feel at home, nothing was too much trouble. All the facilities outdoors exceeded my expectations, with a beautiful hot tub, pizza oven and amazing well designed furniture to fit the theme of the outdoors. In a world where technology is at the forefront of every kids minds it was a breath of fresh air to be able to encourage my children to be children, play on rope swings, go in steams, find creatures, listen to birds, enjoying what the world has to offer, while learning valuable life skills, making memories and having fun as a family. Thank you so much.
