I joined KAL Fitness in July with the intention of using the swimming pool, but shortly afterwards I was diagnosed with debilitating medical conditions that now prevent me from leaving my home. While I completely understand that I signed a fixed 12-month contract, I am appalled at how incredibly difficult KAL have made it to cancel on medical grounds. Their process requires a GP letter on headed paper explicitly stating that my conditions have *deteriorated since joining*. Despite my GP confirming in writing that I am unfit to exercise and that my health has worsened since joining, KAL have rejected this letter three separate times — demanding that my doctor reword it to match their preferred phrasing. Even my GP has expressed disbelief at how pedantic and unreasonable this is, noting that their time is being wasted rewriting the same medical statement simply to satisfy KAL’s wording demands. Throughout this process, the customer service has been shocking. The contact centre emails have been passive-aggressive and patronising, and every request to speak to a manager or escalate my complaint has been stonewalled. I later discovered that the “manager” I had asked to escalate to was the very person I’d been speaking with all along. It feels abundantly clear that they make cancellation on medical grounds as difficult as possible, under the guise of being “fair to all members.” When I mentioned that I would warn others, I was told that KAL would be “happy” to explain their policies to potential members. So, here’s my explanation for them: if you’re comfortable supporting a company that treats people with health conditions as obstacles rather than humans — one that forces doctors to jump through hoops and hides behind technicalities — then KAL Fitness is the place for you. I will be reporting my experience to the local council and relevant authorities. No member who becomes medically unfit should ever have to fight this hard just to stop paying for a service they cannot physically use. Absolutely disgraceful.

Staff too busy laughing to assist. Lost my £1 in a locker and although receptionist poked with scissors I was almost accused of not putting the money in there in the first place!! Won't be rushing back

Perfect for a quiet lane swim, do lessons and a more playful swim sessions too. Great teachers as well. Highly recommend. Free parking and a great little park 2 mins walk over the football pitch. Superb for summer. Proper community venue.

Disgusting ongoing treatment of my partner who is sick with a debilitating disease. The condition is deteriorating fast and they won't cancel her membership on medical grounds because they nitpick and argue EVERY last detail. The doctors note has been redone 2 times at this point and they're still being horrible with the way they continue to refuse to accept it. It's beyond idiotic how anyone could not see Multiple Sclerosis as something that will prevent a person from using a gym! Many days of the week she can't even get out of the house! Absolutely disgusting and disgraceful attitude by KAL. In all honesty they are inhuman. AVOID this place, they don't respect people at all.

Small but good local gym with machines and free weights. Swimming pool. Hot drink machine. Helpful staff. Big car park gets busy.
