I have purchased several Koi from them over the past four or five years. The staff are very knowledgeable about their fish and they’re very helpful. The last fish I purchased, I just couldn’t resist her, they agreed to give her board and lodgings until my new bigger pond was built. Originally they weren’t keen on selling me her because they advised me that with the size of fish I already had and the size of pond I had, it wouldn’t be advisable to add new fish, especially big ones, hence a bigger pond. Now that should tell you that they actually do care about the welfare of their fish. I wish I could post pictures to show you the beautiful healthy Koi I have bought from them. Definitely recommend.

Great shop with plenty to choose from but most importantly the staff are great. So knowledgeable and helpful and between them have spent ages helping me with my first ever fish tank. It’s clear they actually care about animals unlike the big chain stores

First vist today excellent selection of inverts and every you need for inverts. Had look at what else they have as they have loads to look at, will be going again. Service was amazing and all animals looked happy and very lively.

My son has been researching getting an axolotl for six months. After setting up a 100-litre tank and spending two weeks getting the water parameters right, we went to HD1 Aquatics today, really excited to finally bring one home. We were approached by a young man who abruptly told us he wouldn’t sell us one because, according to him, a 140-litre tank is the minimum size. Before we could even ask questions, he turned on his heel and walked away. It felt incredibly dismissive and rude. My son was left upset and confused - what should have been a happy day turned into a really disappointing experience. Gatekeeping like this helps no one. Such a shame.
