Visiting Information
Maloney's Gym operates from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM Monday through Friday. On weekends, it's open from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturdays and 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Sundays. Please note that the gym does not currently have a wheelchair accessible entrance. For payment, Maloney's Gym accepts credit cards, debit cards, and NFC payments, but cash is not accepted.

Great gym, mix of old school equipment and new machines. Friendly staff and very well priced!
I’ve waited a year to share this because I wanted to be in a better place emotionally and mentally before I reflected on what happened. Over the past year, I’ve done a lot of work on myself, and now feels like the right time to share this. This time last year, I was in one of the darkest periods of my life. I cried—a lot—to someone I thought was my friend. We’d worked together at a fitness club, and I decided to hire him as my personal trainer, believing he could help me get back on track. Instead, things quickly took a turn. Within two weeks, he started canceling sessions just 5–10 minutes before they were due to begin. I want to be clear: I’m an understanding person. I know emergencies and sickness can’t always be helped. But what upset me the most was the lack of honesty. On one occasion, he canceled my session due to “personal reasons,” but I was already at the gym—and I saw him training himself and working with other clients. This wasn’t a one-time thing either. Despite my best efforts to communicate and stay consistent, it became clear that he didn’t take my goals seriously. I had prepaid for sessions, so when I decided to end the arrangement, I kindly asked for a refund for the unused sessions. He outright refused. I tried to move on, even though the financial setback hurt. But what followed shocked me. He went so far as to request that the gym block me from attending because my presence made him uncomfortable. This person’s actions were a direct trigger for my suicidal thoughts last year. I’m grateful to have had an incredible group of supportive friends who stood by me and helped me through that dark time. To my friends, fellow Huddersfield locals, and anyone else we may know in common���please be cautious of him. True friends don’t take advantage of you for financial gain. They want to see you thrive, not tear you down. I’ve learned this the hard way, but I’m in a much better place now—and I’ll never let someone like that hold power over me again.

This personal trainer not only failed to deliver the service I paid for—canceling sessions at the last minute while continuing to train himself and other clients—but also refused to refund me for unused sessions. When I decided to part ways professionally, the situation escalated in a shocking way. Rather than fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, Maloney’s Gym sided with the trainer. They asked me not to attend the gym anymore, claiming my presence made him “uncomfortable.” This decision created an environment where I felt excluded and unsupported, highlighting the gym’s failure to follow basic duty of care guidelines. As someone who was already struggling mentally at the time, this lack of compassion from both the trainer and Maloney’s Gym deeply affected me. A gym should be a place where members feel safe, encouraged, and motivated—not a space where favoritism and exclusion thrive. Thankfully, I’ve since found a much better environment where I feel valued and supported, but I believe it’s important to share my experience so others can make informed decisions. Gyms and fitness professionals should prioritise the well-being of their clients and work to maintain a positive atmosphere, rather than enabling harmful behaviour or pushing members out for speaking up.
