A Very old and interesting church in the centre of the Old Town. The tower was pierced for a pedestrian footpath in the 1800s as lowgate was one of the busiest streets in Hull. A lot of Hull's famous people have connections to the church. The church has a rare pew with storage for bread to give to the poor. I was lucky to have a guided tour of the church by one of the parishioners pointing out the fascinating history of this historic church.
Unfortunately it is open only for few hours on Thursday and Friday to visitors

Dear St Mary’s Church bell ringing team, I think your church is amazing, but is there really any need to ring the bells at 5am every morning. It’s not just the hourly chimes, it’s like a full blown wedding ceremony going off for the Royal Family, 24 hours a day 7days a week. I’m happy for the bells to ring from 8am until 8pm, but I really don’t see how the community could possibly benefit from bells constantly ringing at these unearthly hours. Sorry your reply does not allow me to reply back. But seriously. Why are your bells ringing 24 hours a day. Nobody needs to be reminded that it’s 4am, especially if you live nearby. How is this even legal. If I played my music from my apartment 24 hours a day the police would be knocking at my door
This is a magnificent church with a lovely atmosphere and beautiful light. So many features of interest that you could spend hours here.
