Unique experience, with oven baked pizzas under a marquee, a small shop of drinks, sauces, conveniences etc. Lots of outdoor seating, lovely spot at the side of the canal. I'd imagine its great in Summer, not tried it yet. Would need a coat in winter. Outdoor benches outside and in outdoor marquee. There is also a small indoor area too if you prefer the warmth. If youve been shopping in Leeds City and want a relaxing finish to your day, with good food - pizzas, its ideal. My only suggestion is to have more variety on the pizza menu but the team are more than happy to accommodate preferences where they can.
Piglove by the River is a brilliant example of what happens when passion, craft and consistency come together. You can feel the care that goes into everything here — from the beer itself to the atmosphere and the way people are welcomed. It’s always great to see an independent business doing things properly and staying true to its values. The handmade beers are excellent, the service is friendly and relaxed, and the setting by the river makes it a genuinely special place to spend time. Wishing the team continued growth and success for many years to come — well deserved.
Great atmosphere here, we live close by and never knew there was such a lovely bar near us by the river. We came here for the comedy night and it was so much fun, drinks were great and just a lovely place overall.
The most unconventional taproom I've been to? Possibly. But not at all at odds with the 'Brave brewing with eccentric taste' tagline. @piglovebrewing's @piglovebytheriver taproom is, as the name would suggest, situated on the banks of the River Aire downriver of The Royal Armories. It comprises a beer garden, a beer tent and a collection of container units, the main one housing a cosy bar area. On site is also a pizza place and a greengrocers. We arrived on a Friday afternoon just as workers were clocking off and kicking off their weekend, and as such there was a lovely buzz about the place with a diverse clientele. The clientele wasn't the only thing that was diverse, and the location wasn't the only thing that was eccentric. The beer menu had me momentarily perplexed. I recognised the base styles, but each of Pig Love's own beers featured a slight twist. I ended up trying Enyë, a hazy pale with cascara coffee cherry, Rio Serpens, a gose with camu camu berries and holy wood, and Tëpë, a herbal, aromatic pale ale. All excellent, and absolutely worth trying - applause all round for doing something different. We enquired as to how the brewery came about its name. I could paraphrase, but instead I'll give you what their website says: "comes from the Venezuelan expression 'cochino amor', which is used to describe a love for something that is so big, raw and passionate that it becomes filthy. For pigs it's mud, for us it's craft beer and brewing!" We even got to meet the Venezuelan owner, who was more than happy to chat about his beers. I mentioned the beer garden by the river - I can only imagine how rammed this place gets on a sunny day. And to be honest, those crowds wouldn't put me off coming back for more of these quirky yet well-executed beers. With this combination of location and beers, Pig Love are really onto something.
Recommended highly to us from my Daughter who lives nearby. We had a lovely walk up the side of the river/canal, to this cracking place. Great outdoor seating in lovely grounds, tables with parasols and gazebo covered tables. We went to yesterday evening to try craft beers and for the Pop up Pizza, great drinks and the pizzas were delicious, looking forward to going again soon.
