•Just when everyone thought the line-up for this summer couldn't get any bigger, the final piece of the puzzle has been slotted into place. The TK Maxx presents Live at The Piece Hall series has announced its 42nd and final headliner, and it’s a name that promises a truly unique experience. Cinematic rock pioneers Public Service Broadcasting are set to close out the announcements for the sensational series of summer shows, bringing their incredible live show to the historic open-air courtyard in Halifax. This isn't just any gig; it's a performance that blends history, film, and powerful music into one unforgettable evening, adding another fascinating layer to a summer already packed with global superstars.

A final headliner with a difference
So, who are Public Service Broadcasting? Imagine a band that takes old film clips and audio recordings – from things like public information films, archive footage, and even astronaut chatter from the space race – and sets them to a stunning soundtrack of rock, electronic, and orchestral music. It’s like watching a documentary and being at a rock concert at the same time. The London-based four-piece has a reputation for creating deeply immersive and thought-provoking performances that are more than just a collection of songs.
They tell stories. Since forming in 2009, they’ve taken audiences on journeys to the top of Mount Everest, into the cosmos with their chart-topping album The Race For Space, and even explored the story of pioneering female pilot Amelia Earhart on their latest album, The Last Flight. Every one of their studio albums has landed in the UK Top 5, which shows just how much their unique style connects with people. Their headline gig at The Piece Hall on Sunday, 23 August, is a huge deal because it's their only UK headline performance outside of London this summer. Given that their massive hometown show at Alexandra Palace sold out in under three days, tickets for this Halifax date are expected to fly.
A perfect night needs special guests
You can't have a great headliner without an equally brilliant support act, and this show is no exception. Joining Public Service Broadcasting will be the fantastic alt-pop four-piece, The Big Moon. This is a band that has been making waves in the UK music scene for years. Formed in London back in 2014, their debut album Love in the 4th Dimension was so good it got shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize in 2017. That's like getting nominated for a BAFTA, but for music albums. They've gone from strength to strength, with their 2022 album Here Is Everything becoming their first UK Top 10 hit. With their infectious melodies and cool, indie-pop vibe, The Big Moon are the perfect warm-up act, ensuring the energy is high from the very beginning. Having these two incredible bands on the same bill makes for a seriously special night of live music.
What the people behind the scenes are saying
It’s clear that the team at The Piece Hall are just as excited as the fans are about this final announcement. The historic venue has a special atmosphere that feels almost like an outdoor theatre, and finding the right acts to play there is key. Nicky Chance-Thompson MBE DL FRSA, CEO of The Piece Hall Trust, couldn't be happier with the final headliner.
What a show for our final announcement on this already recording breaking season," she said. “A unique band for a unique venue – and like The Piece Hall they offer something really different blending history, knowledge and learning with their super cool indie electronica to deliver a truly amazing night out. Celebrated for their emotive musical storytelling and incredible immersive live performances they couldn’t have picked a more appropriate venue. A brilliant booking to complete an absolutely stellar line up – bring on the summer!
Just look at this packed summer line-up

With Public Service Broadcasting now completing the line-up, the full schedule is a who's who of music legends and current chart-toppers. There really is something for everyone. And that’s just scratching the surface. The list also includes rock royalty like the Hollywood Vampires, emo legends Jimmy Eat World, and Australian synth-pop heroes Empire of the Sun.
