Pickering Farm Shop Café to Host Charity Quiz Nights

Yorkshire Team

Published on January 29th, 2026

There's nothing quite like a proper pub quiz, is there? The friendly rivalry, the head-scratching questions, and the triumph of remembering the capital of Kyrgyzstan. But what if a quiz could be even better? Imagine all that fun, but with a cracking pie and pea supper thrown in, and the knowledge that every pound spent is going to a brilliant cause. Well, that’s exactly what’s happening in Pickering, as a local farm shop brings back its much-loved winter charity quiz nights.

A proper good quiz night in Pickering

The team at Cedarbarn Farm Shop and Café are dusting off their question books and getting ready to host two fantastic fundraising quiz nights. These aren’t just any old quizzes; they're becoming a bit of a local legend. After a brilliant run last year, they’re back by popular demand for 2026. Anyone wanting to take part should make a note of the dates: Friday, 30th January and Friday, 20th February. The events will be held at the farm shop venue on Thornton Road in Pickering.

Leading the charge is the resident quizmaster, Michael Kipling, who is also a member of the Cedarbarn team. He'll be putting teams through their paces with a fun quiz designed for everyone. And it’s not just about glory; there are prizes for the top two teams. Speaking of teams, you can gather a group of up to four people to test your collective knowledge. To keep everyone fuelled, the tickets include a legendary pie and pea supper, featuring the famous Cedarbarn Steak Pie. There will also be a licensed bar available all evening and a raffle with some great prizes up for grabs. Getting tickets is easy – they cost £20 per person and are available to buy online. This is one of those fantastic local fundraising events where having a good time and doing good go hand-in-hand. This is the key information needed before you plan your visit.

The event's organiser, Cedarbarn’s assistant general manager Lauren Turnbull, explained the decision to bring the event back.

“Last year’s charity quiz nights were so successful that we’re repeating them in 2026.”

It's a simple formula: a great quiz, delicious food, and a wonderful charity focus.

Supporting maternal mental health with Lucy's Legacy

The first of the two quiz nights, happening on 30th January, is dedicated to a charity doing incredibly important work in the community. All proceeds from this quiz will go to Lucy’s Legacy, an organisation that provides vital support for people struggling with maternal mental health issues. This is such a critical area, helping parents navigate a time that can be wonderful but also incredibly challenging. The charity focuses on improving peri and postnatal care, which is the support provided during pregnancy and after birth.

The story behind Lucy's Legacy is one of inspiring determination.

“In just over a year, Lucy's mum, sister and close friends have raised an amazing £40,000 to help provide better peri and postnatal care to those who need it the most.”

“After a busy year of hosting their own fundraising events, it's time for them to enjoy the proceeds, without the hard work of organising an event.”

It's a lovely way to show appreciation for their tireless fundraising work while contributing to the charity.

Fundraising for Breast Cancer Now

The second quiz night, on 20th February, will support another powerful cause, with proceeds going to a local woman’s fundraising for Breast Cancer Now. The research and support charity is being championed by Jody Marton, whose personal story has inspired a huge fundraising drive. Jody received her own diagnosis in December 2024, a moment that changes everything. But after completing her chemotherapy in June, she channelled her energy into making a difference.

Lauren shared more about Jody’s amazing efforts:

“After completing her chemotherapy in June, Jody decided it was time to start fundraising and raising awareness. She has since raised over £13,000 from a tractor run (led by Jody in her pink tractor!), wreath-making classes, cake and book stalls and a charity ball at Scarborough Rugby club.”

That’s an incredible amount of work and a testament to her spirit. This quiz offers another opportunity for people to get behind Jody Marton and contribute to her fundraising for Breast Cancer Now, a charity that helps so many people affected by the disease. It’s a chance to turn a fun night out into meaningful support for vital research.
