•There's a certain kind of magic that only comes around at Christmas. It's that feeling of anticipation, of wonder, and the belief that something truly special is about to happen. For families in Yorkshire and beyond, that feeling is being captured and put on rails. The hugely popular THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride is steaming back to the Wensleydale Railway for another festive season. After record-breaking ticket sales last year, this incredible Christmas experience is returning on selected dates between 27 November and 23 December 2026. This isn't just a simple ride on a train; it's a full-blown theatrical adventure that brings a beloved story to life, creating memories that last long after the last of the mince pies are gone. For the seventh year running, this event promises to be a standout on the festive calendar.

All aboard for a magical journey
So, what exactly is THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride? Imagine stepping straight into the pages of a storybook or onto the set of your favourite Christmas film. That's the goal. This immersive experience is based on the classic children's book by Chris Van Allsburg and the blockbuster 2004 film from Warner Bros. It’s a story that has enchanted people for decades, and this train ride brings all its charm and wonder to life. The setting couldn't be more perfect. The Wensleydale Railway is a stunning heritage railway that winds its way through the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Using a real, puffing steam train adds a layer of authenticity that makes the whole journey feel completely real.
To make the experience even more special, guests are encouraged to come dressed for the occasion – in their pyjamas! Just like the children in the story, families can get comfy in their favourite PJs, dressing gowns, and slippers. It’s amazing to see whole families, from toddlers to grandparents, getting into the festive spirit with matching pyjamas. This small touch completely transforms the atmosphere, making everyone feel part of the story from the moment they arrive at the station in Leeming Bar. It’s this attention to detail that elevates the Polar Express from a simple attraction to a truly magical event.
What happens on the ride?
The adventure begins on the platform at Leeming Bar station, which is transformed into a winter wonderland. As snow gently falls, guests wait for the unmistakable sight and sound of THE POLAR EXPRESS™ arriving. Climbing aboard, families find their lantern-lit tables and settle in for the hour-long round-trip journey to the North Pole. But this is no ordinary railway journey. From the moment the train pulls away, the entertainment begins.
A cast of talented performers brings the beloved characters from the film to life right in the carriage. The famous Conductor will be there to punch everyone’s golden ticket, just like in the movie. Then, a troupe of dancing chefs will sing and dance their way through the train, serving up delicious hot chocolate and cookies to all the guests. As the journey continues, passengers get to listen to the story of The Polar Express, following along with the original book. There are surprises along the way, too, with characters like the mysterious Hobo making an appearance. The highlight of the ride, of course, is the arrival of Santa Claus himself. He and his elf assistant will visit every single guest, presenting them with the very first gift of Christmas: a silver sleigh bell. As the story reminds us, only those who truly believe can hear its magical ring!

The team behind the Christmas magic
Pulling off an event of this scale takes a huge amount of teamwork. This magical experience is a collaboration between several expert companies, including PNP Events, Wensleydale Railway, Rail Events Inc., and Warner Bros. The result is a polished, professional, and utterly enchanting show. PNP Events are specialists in creating these kinds of immersive events, ensuring the entertainment is top-tier. They work closely with Rail Events, the company that holds the official licence for THE POLAR EXPRESS™ train rides across the globe.
And this is a global phenomenon. Each year, more than 1.5 million guests enjoy this festive ride across 54 different locations worldwide, making it one of the most beloved Christmas events on the planet. Warner Bros. Consumer Products helps ensure that the characters, story, and overall feel are faithful to the film that so many people adore. The Wensleydale Railway provides the perfect heritage backdrop, making the entire experience feel timeless. It’s this combination of local charm and world-class production that makes the Yorkshire version of this train ride so special.
Getting your golden ticket
With last year's record numbers, it’s a safe bet that tickets for the 2026 season will be in high demand. The train ride will be running on selected dates from Friday, 27 November right up until Wednesday, 23 December 2026. This gives families plenty of opportunities to fit this wonderful experience into their busy Christmas schedules.
Ticket prices vary depending on the date and time of the journey, ranging from £35.95 to £57.95 per person. Every single passenger receives two special keepsakes as part of their experience:
A souvenir golden ticket
A silver sleigh bell from Santa
Given how quickly the most popular dates sell out, anyone thinking of climbing aboard is encouraged to book their tickets soon. Once the journey is over, guests can also visit the gift shop to find a festive souvenir to remember their magical ride. This isn't just a day out; it's a core Christmas memory in the making.
A little extra good cheer
The spirit of Christmas is also about giving, and the team at PNP Events has found a lovely way to support a worthy cause. They will once again be supporting the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd. This is Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer, found in the beautiful Cairngorm mountains in Scotland. For every biodegradable carrier bag sold in the on-site gift shops, 5p will be donated towards the upkeep and maintenance of these wonderful animals. It’s a small gesture that adds an extra layer of warmth to the whole Christmas experience, connecting the magic of the North Pole on the train to some real-life reindeer here in the UK.
