Cricket legends in Leeds

This week, Headingley had the privilege of hosting an exceptional gathering of cricket legends and local heroes. On the evening of April 25th, 2024, the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority orchestrated a gala event at Headingley Stadium showcasing sporting prowess and Caribbean culture.

The event was graced by cricket luminaries such as Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Andy Roberts, and Sir Curtly Ambrose, alongside England's cricket stalwarts Joe Root and Adam Lyth. The assembled sporting legends not only celebrated a monumental year of international cricket but also spotlighted Leeds as a must-visit destination for sports fans worldwide.

Sir Richie Richardson, who made history at Headingley as the club’s first Caribbean player in 1993, reminisced about his illustrious career during the special event. The evening included a Caribbean-inspired three-course dinner and lively musical performances, including an appearance by the band Spirited, featuring Sir Richie Richardson himself and Sir Curtly Ambrose.
