Gavin and Rachel have been wonderful. They have been easy to work with and are quick to reply to my questions. Gavin helped me work through some important financial decisions that I needed to make very quickly. Rachel has most recently posted my tax return, helping to reclaim foreign tax credit relief on my US company shares for the current year as well as reviewing and re-posting tax returns for the past three years. The team at Smith McBride have been a great help to us since we moved to them in 2020, in particular helping with the integration of our pricing system and Xero. They have really gone out of their way to learn our system, even spending time after hours speaking to the support guys based in the US. I moved to Smith McBride following bad advice from my former accountants that nearly cost me my business: I wish I had discovered them sooner. Gavin and his team have been nothing short of excellent in every communication, be this something I have requested, or something sent proactively (like how to interpret Government advice and announcements). The monthly payment plan also means I can get quarterly accountant reviews as well as full accounts preparation without any surprises, and all for a very competitive annual cost (even considering I have the "top" package of all corporate and personal tax). I first met Gavin in 2009 when I was setting up Key Appointments and he was providing a free accountancy clinic for start-up businesses. At that stage, I didn’t know where to start, should I be self-employed initially or a limited company? Should I be VAT registered or not? What type of records did I need to keep? etc, etc. Since that day, Gavin has always provided clear information which allows me to make decisions at the right time. Gavin is more than an Accountant in my eyes. He asks regular questions about the services we provide, the process and the fees for each service, ensuring we are profitable. We have quarterly meetings which are extremely useful to identify successes/challenges, reviewing overheads and assessing proposed tax liability. This means that things can be acted upon quickly rather than getting a shock at year end. With the recent outbreak of COVID-19, Gavin has been there every step of the way for his clients and has made sure he has checked in with them all. I know he has worked night and day to navigate all the information out there to expertly advise what finance, grants and funding might be suitable for each of his clients. The team at Smith McBride have been amazing in keeping everything on track with normal statutory duties on top of everything else that is needed to be done.
