We had such a lovely Sunday at Shears Yard today and honestly couldn’t fault a single thing. We shared the prawn toast and the chicken & chorizo terrine to start and both were absolutely incredible — one of those moments where you look at each other after the first bite and just know you’ve chosen well. For our roasts, I had the porchetta and my wife went for the sirloin, and we both ended up polishing off every last bit. Proper, comforting, beautifully cooked Sunday roast done right. Although it was fairly quiet, it didn’t take anything away from our enjoyment of the meal — if anything, it made the whole experience feel even more relaxed and special. I also had a glass of the Portuguese Syrah, which was stunning — rich, smooth and a perfect match for the food. A big shout-out to Ben, who looked after us so well. He was genuinely friendly, chatty and on the ball the whole time without ever being over the top — it made the experience feel relaxed and special. We enjoyed it so much that we left a tip by buying Ben and the chefs a round of drinks. It was one of those meals that just leaves you smiling as you walk out. We’ll definitely be back. 🍷
Exceptional roasts and desserts. And lots of gluten free options. As someone who is coeliac half the challenge of eating out is finding food that is equivalent to non gluten free offerings. Shears Yard matches this perfectly. The other half is the attitude of the restaurant. It’s the worst to feel like an inconvenience. The Shears Yard staff were so lovely and made me feel welcome. We will definitely be back and I will recommend this place to everyone Also the Mince Pie Old Fashioned cocktail really hits the spot.
I had my wedding reception here this month and it was incredible. From start to finish it was such an easy experience booking and arranging what we wanted. Nic the owner and his team are truly an incredible one and the food, drinks; ambience, and service on the day were second to none. Nothing was too much trouble. Every guest said it was one of the best weddings they’d been to and that’s because of the team here. Will recommend anyone looking to get married to use Shears Yard as you are brilliant! We will be back very regularly to eat here and will be regulars for life! Thank you for making our day magic ❤️❤️❤️
I got the £28 duck mains. The duck was extra raw, tender. I liked it. The parsnip was very stringy and fibrous, barely edible. I wish there was salt and pepper on the table. The rest of the table had the same issue with the parnsip. Half the table didn't touch the parsnip. All the meat was very nicely cooked though.
Shears Yard is an absolute gem in the city centre. The four of us tried the 'three courses for £30' menu and it was fantastic from start to finish incredible value for such fresh, beautifully cooked food. With excellent service, a lovely ambience, and a genuinely warm welcome, it’s a brilliant independently run restaurant that’s perfect for family and friends. In an age where good modern European restaurants are harder to find, this is one not to be missed. Can’t wait to go back!
