The Chequers Inn
About
Description
The Chequers Inn is truly one of England's old traditional Inns with an history that can be traced back to 1540. The Inn was originally closed on Sunday, 170 years ago by the Lady of the Manor who was unhappy with her employees over-indulgence in the ales of old England on the Sabbath. The Inn is still owned by the same family who have carried on with the tradition of staying closed on Sunday, however, everyone can enjoy this beautiful Inn, Monday to Saturday, with it's individually decorated rooms and open fireplaces. Toby jugs and all manner of antiques adorn walls and ceilings in this busy olde-worlde environment, with its low beams and cosy alcoves, or you may wish to sit on the terrace amongst the hanging baskets and flowers.
For the connoisseurs of real ale, a good selection is always available at the bar. Simpson and Simpson's Award winning traditional ales from the Brown Cow Brewery are always available. Other beers and lagers are Timothy Taylor's Landlord, John Smiths, Theakstons, Becks, Kronenbourg, Fosters and a good variation of hand pulled guest beer.
