Leeds Minster

About

Description

The origins of our present-day endeavour date from the time of the greatest of the Victorian Vicars of Leeds, Dr Hook, during whose 22-year incumbency today’s Church of St Peter at Leeds was built, an astonishing building consecrated with great ceremony on 2 September 1841 in the presence of a vast congregation including Florence Nightingale.

Visit the Church for worship – whether for a few minutes of calm beauty at a mid-week Choral Evensong or for the richness of a Sunday Choral Eucharist. Walk around and soak up the atmosphere of a building rich in history and heritage, light a votive candle, listen to the famous organ, enjoy a light lunch in the Refectory.

If you do have not the time for an extended personal visit, but pass the Parish Church on foot, by train, by bus, or in your car, do listen out for the Bells.

I took my mum for the YEP carol concert which was really lovely. The band and choir were excellent. There was as a friendly gathering contributing to charity and giving toys for those less fortunate. My only disappointment was that there were no mince pies!

Went to see a beautiful orchestra, playing Christmas movie songs, under wonderful architecture... I'm surprised there isn't more sold out events in this hidden gem. Super helpful and friendly staff, highly recommend for any occasion!

We went to the Abba by Candlelight concert and previously the Coldplay concert. Both were great fun. Look out for them all the time now! Thank you we will return again!

We visited here to watch a tribute to films Hans Zimmer illuminated concert. The orchestra sounded really good and the lighting was impressive. The acoustics were great even though at times the drum sections were very powerful. Such a talented orchestra and the conductors violin playing was fantastic to the theme tune of Schindler's List. I wasn't aware there was a singer, her voice was exceptional. So glad we came to see the concert s great evening and a beautiful Minster.
