Mr. Mackerel is one of those places you just keep going back to in Leeds Kirkgate Market. The food is consistently good, portions are generous and prices are very fair for the quality. Highly recommend the lamb burger – really flavourful and filling. The grilled chicken wings are spot on as well, nicely seasoned and cooked just right. The grilled fish sandwich is another favourite, fresh, tasty and a nice change from the usual kebabs. Staff are always welcoming and efficient, even when it’s busy, and the location inside the market makes it super convenient for lunch or a quick bite while shopping. Great food, good value, excellent service and a very convenient location – can’t ask for more. Definitely a place we keep coming back to and would happily recommend to anyone visiting Leeds.
This has been my go to in Leeds for years now so I thought it only right I leave a review! I can’t not order the mackeral, rice and salad whenever I’m here. It’s just ridiculously good! Super fresh, tasty and light. Just the best!
Spotted Mr Mackerel at the Kirkgate Market and had to give it a try. Always love a good bit of fish, and if you name your restaurant after a dish it has to be your best foot forward, right? Luckily that turned out to be the case when they freshly grilled a piece for me and made me a refreshing and clean tasting sandwich that didn't feel too heavy on the stomach. Turn around was about 5 minutes after ordering and seating was ample. Overall great experience!
I really wanted to visit Mr Mackerel after seeing a post on TikTok, so dragged my husband over to try it. I ordered the £7.50 fish sandwich meal which included a grilled mackerel sandwich, chips, and a drink. The mackerel didn’t disappoint, really nice to have fresh grilled fish and was a nice change for lunch. The mackerel itself was delicious and the bread was fresh, and there was a choice of salad to fill it with. My only reservation was that I could have done with a little more filling as the bread:filling ratio was a little off. It was also a little dry for my liking and could have benefited from a bit more sauce. That being said it was really tasty and definitely would recommend giving this place a go at least once. The chips were a bit naff, but not terrible. Definitely a good choice for quick and fresh lunch.
