Welcome to Yorkshire

|For authentic South Indian food, Tharavadu has been the local and visitor favourite in Leeds for nearly 10 years. Now the team behind this award winning restaurant are taking things to new heights—literally—with the launch of their new venture, Uyare, a rooftop restaurant in Leeds city centre.
Opening at Victoria Gate (formerly the Issho site), Uyare will serve a modern take on Kerala flavours with a premium bar, themed nights and plenty of space to enjoy the city views.

A space to impression
Uyare means “elevated” in Malayalam and lives up to its name with 7,000 sq. ft of space. It can seat 300 people so perfect for date nights to big celebrations. If you want something more intimate there’s a 15 person private dining room for special occasions or corporate events.
The restaurant has two areas:
- Bhoomi (The Earth Restaurant): Traditional dishes served in a modern small plates style.
- Agni (The Fire Bar): A sleek spot for craft cocktails, fine wines and local beers.
It’s not just about the food and drink though. Uyare is about the experience, bringing Kerala’s culinary traditions to a rooftop setting.
A menu full of Keralan flavours
If you’ve eaten at Tharavadu before you’ll know they don’t mess around when it comes to big bold flavours. Uyare will be the same, dishes prepared with traditional techniques. Expect coconut, tamarind and aromatic spices in dishes to share.
And what about drinks? The Agni bar team will be shaking and stirring to impress with craft cocktails, champagnes and local craft beers. And there’ll be themed nights—watch this space!
What they say
Tharavadu’s spokesperson Siby Jose is excited about this new venture:
“As Leeds is our home town we are committed to being local and it’s an honour to be part of this city. Opening Uyare in the city centre is a big deal for us—a chance to celebrate our heritage and give something back to the people of Leeds.”
Uyare isn’t just about expanding Tharavadu’s brand. It’s about giving back to the city. Rachel Bradburn, Leasing Director at Victoria Leeds says:
“Independent regional brands are an important part of our tenant mix and we’re delighted to welcome Tharavadu’s new addition to our food and drink offer.”
Why Leeds
Leeds has a great food scene already but Uyare adds something more. It’s not just another restaurant it’s a celebration of culture and community. By showcasing the diversity of South Indian cuisine Uyare will be a must visit for locals and tourists.
And let’s be real a rooftop restaurant with great food and cocktails? That’s the kind of place you’ll want to Instagram.
