About Northern School of Contemporary Dance

Description

At our home in Leeds, City of Dance, we provide an inspirational learning environment for aspiring contemporary dance artists to train in a place that values them as individuals. We offer studies at Foundation, Undergraduate and Postgraduate level as a School of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. We also provide classes and workshops to all ages and abilities through our Learning & Participation activities.

We are home to Riley Theatre, a performance venue for professional touring companies and emerging dance artists with our 2015 programme funded by Arts Council England. Riley Theatre provides performance opportunities throughout the year for NSCD students across the whole provision. VERVE, NSCD’s theatrical and dynamic postgraduate performance company, open their UK and European tour on the Riley stage in the Spring.

I’m living next door, that alarm sound from this dancing centre made me head ache, sort this out or dance somewhere else

I've studied performance in Further and Higher Education since 1993 on and off and since then I have also maintained a working life in Entertainment of various kinds. NSCD stands out to me as a place that delivers a world class standard of Dance education along with being a really welcoming, safe and inclusive place. I started my journey round the corner in the former Thomas Danby College and know the area well and am aware how long standing the status of Dance is in the local community which is also one of the liveliest in the North. I would recommend anyone at all to study here

My daughter has attended a summer school here. She had the best experiences: teaching methods, facilities, staff, atmosphere were all at the highest level of professional. Highly recommend.

Visiting this prestigious dance school for the first time, I enjoyed a Vegan lunch in their wonderful little café. The catering and hospitality team are very friendly and welcoming and the food is excellent quality and reasonably priced. The upcoming programme of shows is exciting and extensive with dance styles to suit and enthral all tastes.
