A fascinating and thought-provoking experience! My husband and I visited today and we were both captivated, though for very different reasons. I was particularly moved by the displays showcasing the animals used in warfare throughout history. Their loyalty and the roles they played are truly touching. On the other hand, my husband was absolutely fascinated by the artistry and craftsmanship – the engraved details on the suits of armor and the precision of the weapons are world-class. It is a surreal experience to admire such incredible beauty and technical skill while being reminded of the terrifying purpose these objects served. It’s a powerful lesson in history. A little tip for couples: I told my husband that after seeing these heavy 16th-century helmets, he has no excuse to complain about wearing a beanie when it’s cold! He just looked at a full suit of armor and wondered aloud if they made a version that could "accidentally" mute the sound of me asking him to do the vacuuming. 😂 Free admission, stunning collection, and very helpful staff. A must-see in Leeds!
Wow! What an amazing place, they have a lot of items. Some of them are more popular culture (like from movies or series), some are older and historical. There is something for everyone. I was slightly disappointed that the glare was sometimes so strong you couldn’t see the items displayed properly. The signage is definitely not helpful and can be dramatically improved too. The gift shop is very cool to visit so don’t skip it.
If you're into history this is a great place to visit. It's not just educational, but also interactive (bow & arrow target). There's also a pretty nice gift shop. There are miniature displays (see 📸) with horses and battles reminding you of Night at the Museum. Royal Armour only asks for a donation, there doesn't appear to be a set entrance fee.
I’ve been to many museums around the world, and this is definitely one of the best. The collection is astounding and there’s so much to see, you’ll need a whole day to do it justice. It’s great for all ages and you don’t need to have a particular interest in armies or weapons to enjoy your visit. The displays are beautifully arranged. The museum is free to enter and there are multiple free shows for kids and adults alike to enjoy throughout the day. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Leeds.
Amazing! Great museum, nothing else quite like it. Plenty to see, can quite easily spend an hour or 2 exploring. Free entry!
