The staff at Derwent swim and fitness are doing the best they can in the shambolic company that is everyone active. They are understaffed, which has knock on issues to all service delivery. Head office need to work on there strategic service delivery, there business model and accessibility policy.
Needs desperately an update. Old and no atmosphere, changing rooms need cleaning more often.
I honestly don’t know how people are giving this pool 5 stars. I usually go to York leisure center but decided today to visit derwent as it’s closer to home for a swim. Where do I start, the changing facilities are disgusting with mouldy floors, the toilet stinks of sewerage and is dirty, the showers are dirty and cold. I was the first person in so the water was still and I could see huge clumps of hair and dirt at the bottom of the pool, again there is mouldy floors and underneath the windows are rusting. The pool is split in half so one side is slow and the other is fast swimming, I’m by no means a strong swimmer so i went in the slow lane, I was faster than some so was just overtaking as is usual pool practice,or I stopped to let people get ahead. The life guard noticed this and said I should probably be In the fast lane but I am not comfortable to do this as I don’t want to collide with people who are swimming fast as I’m not a strong swimmer myself. All derwent need to do is add a single medium swim lane so everyone can enjoy their swim and not get in each others way. Really disappointed to be honest as I know it’s a budget pool and gym but everyone should be entitled to clean facilities especially changing areas and pools.
Joined gym a month ago love it for heart condition, nice early open except weekends not big but never overcrowded staff are great
This was a nice place to go for an afternoon swim as it was quiet and it was lane swimming. Not too cold, not too hot. The locker room was quite clean and all lockers were well maintained. These take the OLD £1 coin or you can get a token from reception. The sauna was out of order on this occasion but I have used it in the past and its OK. Also situated at this building is a gym which requires membership.
