What a great brewery tap with great service and friendly regulars, if you’re on the 🚂 (one each way per hour) keep an eye on the time as time flies by when you’re drinking these superb beers. Also keep a look out on the strengths, there’s some really potent ones but such easy drinkers.
Happened upon this place by chance. Virtually all the pubs in Malton "the foodie capital of North Yorkshire" appear to have closed down. The town was like a ghost town on Saturday evening, yet this place was buzzing. A friendly welcome and great beer. Upstairs a little chilly ,but very comfy chairs up there. We enjoyed and will certainly return.
When I saw that the final delivery of the day was up near Malton, I promptly asked my mate who reviews gluten free beers if he was coming along for the ride. Why? Because Brass Castle's taproom (or taphouse, as they style it, and as it indeed is) is the exact intersection between our interests: taprooms and exclusively gluten free beer. So, deliveries completed, we made our way to the taphouse - a place my mate had previously visited and recommended we go together. I had heard they had a decent AF beer, and that's what I kicked things off with, whilst Steve went for the Beowulf Helles - both great beers, with the AFGF hazy pale going down oh so nicely that I couldn't believe it was alcohol free. Given that time (and alcohol consumption) was limited we then opted for a flight consisting of a cask West coast IPA (Morph), a pale (Hoptical Illusion) and the absolute bonafide classic vanilla porter that they call Bad Kitty. All top notch beers. Service from the taphouse staff was exemplary and the place itself offers lots of seating options upstairs, downstairs and outside. We found ourselves a little snug upstairs and whiled away an hour before we had to head back to us missuses and general life responsibilities.
Great choice of own brewed beers on tap, really friendly welcome and atmosphere. Loyalty scheme is great if you live in the area. Large choice of takeout beers too.
Popped in to try a few 1/3rds whilst passing and really lovely taproom to visit. Great range of beers to sample and open courtyard at the back by the brewery with live band on a Saturday. A fridge full of cans to takeaway.
