Beeslaar Pinotage 2022

Drink it now or cellar for up to 15 years. It is recommended to decant it for an hour and half. Widely regarded as "a genius of Pinotage", Arbie Beeslar founded his brand in 2011 and launched his first wine in 2012. The winemaker, best known for his work on the Kanonkop estate, cultivates approximately 2.5 hectares of vines of Pinotage on a gentle slope with a south-eastern orientation, 200m above sea level. The soils are well-drained schist and the site benefits from a southeast wind which ensures a cool climate for the vineyards and also limits plant growth. The Pinotage grapes for this elegant South African wine come from 25-year-old bush-trained and non-irrigated vines. The harvest is manual and the fermentation takes place in open-air concrete vats. The finished wine then ages for 21 months in 40% new French oak barriques. It is a quality wine with an excellent fruity character and a complex aromatic profile made up of aromas of red and black fruits, followed by notes of licorice, dark chocolate, tobacco leaves and spices. On the palate, it is rich and bold, smooth and concentrated. The tannins are fine and elegant. The finish is dry and persistent. It goes perfectly with any game dish such as pasta with wild boar ragout, rich lamb preparations or beef stews.
