Product Description

Drink now or cellar for up to 4 years. Serve chilled. The Waghorns have been making wine in Marlborough ever since they founded Astrolabe in 1996. Today they work with ten well-established local families from across the region who provide their grapes. All employ sustainable practices in the vineyard and focus on maximising fruit quality both during the growing season and at the crucial moment of harvest. Winemaker Simon Waghorn sources the grapes for this gorgeous Sauvignon Blanc from the Taihoa and Sleepers vineyards in the Marlborough sub-region of Kekerengu Coast. To preserve freshness and the unique varietal character of the Sauvignon Blanc Simon ferments the wine in stainless steel tanks and then adds a small amount of wine fermented in the barrel using wild yeasts to add complexity and extra body to the finished blend. The result is an intense wine which exudes classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas of limes and gooseberries along with passionfruit and lemongrass. The first sip reveals a bright acidity, rich tropical fruit and citrus flavours, and a rich full body with a long finish. This wine is an ideal complement to dishes ranging from leafy summer salads and pan-fried fish to creamy baked chicken or risottos made with vegetables or seafood.
