Saona Island from Santo Domingo

The island has an area of 110 square km and is home to around 1,200 people. His main occupation is fishing and tourism. It is a protected space, so construction has not been allowed for years.Its beaches are quiet, with white sand and surrounded by palm trees and coconut trees. The Island is rocky, it has caverns and grottoes that hide archaeological sites from the time of the Taíno.Defined by its visitors as “a must if you travel to the Dominican Republic”, Saona Island is famous for its virgin beaches, its history, its landscapes and its seabed. In addition, it has: very authentic fishing villages; caves that date back to the time of the Taínos; and it is the most important turtle nesting site in the country.
