Schmincke Horadam watercolours contain only the finest raw materials to achieve high standards for lightfastness, stability and resolubility . The paints are bound with Kordofan gum arabic from the southern Sahara. As this is a natural source of the binder, the gum arabic tends to differ slightly year on year. To ensure the highest quality is achieved Schmincke continually tests their ingredients, and the best of the batch is selected. This ensures small but noticeable quality advantages, and paint that has dried on your pallet can easily be re-wetted and used again. Supergranulating colours are characterised by a special feature: the combination of at least two granulating Horadam pigments intensifies this effect into "supergranulation." These colours are made up of pigments from different colour families, allowing not only granulation effects but also colour shifts. The natural texture formation varies depending on the surface and amount of water being used - rough paper enhances the granulation effect as heavier pigments settle into the troughs in the paper.
