The Kean Baren, Also Known As The KBB Baren (Kean Ball Bearing Baren) Is Designed And Manufactured By Hand By Moku Hanga Artist Roslyn Kean In Her Studio In Austaralia. Traditionally The Japanese Baren Is Made From Split Bamboo Sheath Twisted Into A String, Which Is Then Coiled And Backed And Wrapped In A Bamboo Sheath. The Kean Baren Is Made From A Disc Of High Performance, Low Friction Plastic, Within Which Stainless Steel Ball Are Suspended, Allowing Them To Form Pressure Points For Printing. The Construction Enables The Balls To Rotate Freely Delivering Multiple Pressure Points Evenly Across The Disc. The Baren Is Bound In Black Leather With A Strong Leather Handle And Measures 13cm In Diameter. Occasional Rubbing On An Oiled Felt Pad Is The Only Maintenance Required, Do Not Apply Oil Directly To The Baren.The Baren Should Be Kept Dry At All Times. To Achieve The Best Results, Push Down With The Knuckles And Heel Of The Hand, With Fingertips Under The Strap. Rotate It Enough To Eliminate Baren Marks - Start Gently And Increase The Pressure Gradually In Order To Create An Even Surface - Acetate Can Be Placed At The Back Of The Print To Protect It.
