Product Description

Recreate the heroic battles of the past with this Pugio Drik Sword. The pugio was quite different from other blades issued to Roman soldiers at the time of their invasion of Britain in 43AD. This dirk had been part of legionary equipment for hundreds of years, as it was the ideal shape it had no need to be changed. Many a pugio dirk like this was the saviour of an all but defeated roman legionary (when he lost his gladius sword) but this was more than a weapon of last defence; it was the soldier’s marching-camp handy tool. We do not know why, but after about 180AD only senior officers, from Centurion up, are seen in carvings carrying pugios on their belts. The blade is engraved with the words ‘Vallum Hadrianus’, the Latin for Hadrian’s Wall, making it the perfect souviner of your trip to the historic site. Key Features: Exclusive to English Heritage Wooden Sword Engraved with Vallum Hadrianus
