Product Description
The species, named in recognition of its resemblance to the well-known dwarf cichlid, represents a distinct fish that originates from the sandy littoral zone of Lake Victoria. Within this habitat, the presence of rocks provides essential shelter. Similar to other cichlid species endemic to Lake Victoria, the natural populations of this fish were on the brink of extinction due to the introduction of the highly predatory Nile perch (Lates niloticus). Consequently, maintaining aquarium populations has become crucial for their continued existence.. Diet:. Ominvore; Like most cichlids the rock krib is not a picky eater. Favourites include spirulina, high quality beef heart mix, krill, plankton, mysis, nori, blood worm etc.. Habitat:. For optimal care, the aquarium must be adequately sized and designed to mimic the natural environment. It should incorporate rocky formations that not only obstruct the view but also allow territorial fish to avoid confrontations. These structures should be constructed with the intention of creating numerous crevices for the fish to explore, yet in a manner that ensures the stability of the rocks, even if the fish begin to excavate around or underneath them.. Tank Mates:. The Victorian cichlids are not known for their aggressive behavior and are best kept in groups, preferably with a ratio of 2 or more females to each male. Potential tankmates for these fish include certain species of mbuna or peacocks from Lake Malawi.. Water Parameters:. Hard, alkaline water essential. pH: 7.5-8.5, KH: up to 25 degrees.. Temperature:. 24°C - 28°C
