Spier Creative Block 5, South Africa, 2021

Creative Block 5 is a robust blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, enriched with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Harvested by hand, the grapes undergo meticulous sorting and fermentation in both oak fermenters and stainless steel tanks. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels, and now almost four years after its creation, the wine exhibits delicious maturity, and a recommended drinking window from 2024 to 2028. Prominent flavours of Blackberry, cherry and blackcurrant are supported by cedar, dark chocolate and hints of fennel. This vibrant palate has good balance and dense tannins which will only be enhanced with ageing.
