Poggio di Sotto's Brunello di Montalcino is a wine from the south-eastern corner of the region, around Castelnuovo dell'Abate. The estate is known for being traditionalists in their approach to Brunello di Montalcino, with the wines maturing on traditional Slavonian oak botti. The vineyards, entirely planted to Sangiovese and organically farmed, produce only 3,000 cases of wine per year. The fruit for Poggio di Sotto's Brunellos is derived from high hills overlooking the Orcia River valley, with vineyards at three different altitudes used to achieve the most balanced wines. Fermentation and maceration take place in 70 hl old Slavonian oak vats and is followed by 58 months in oak. This wine is a 75cl red wine suitable for both men and women.
