Of the many sublime white wines of Burgundy, those from the Mâconnais district hold special appeal with their ripe floral and fruity profile. Our textbook example comes from the cellars of Cave de Lugny, Chardonnay specialists with 1,180 hectares of vineyard dedicated to the grape. They make their wines in the traditional way, and typically leave them unoaked to allow for vibrancy and complexity. This very drinkable bottling is a blend of plots from around Lugny, together which create a wine with fresh and intense aromas of white flowers and citrus. Minerally, delicate and fruity, the flavours are just what you’d hope for in a Mâcon-Villages – ideal with fish, roast chicken, pork or creamy cheeses.
