Bosquet des Papes is one of the Rhône Valley’s stalwart wineries and has passed through six generations of the Boiron family since its foundation in 1860. They create a stunning range of Chateauneuf du Pape wines, sourced from 40 separate estate-owned plots, with an average vine age of 50 years. The grapes come from a mixture of stony, sandy and clay soils, capturing the incredible richness and complexity of the region. The nose of this wine is an aromatic blend of red fruit and flowers. Raspberry, sour cherry and cassis meet rose petals and garrigue. It was crafted from 100% Grenache, harvested from 7 different parcels, and some of the oldest vines in the commune of Pignan - hence the name. On the palate, you can discover a dry, full-bodied character, packed with a velvety mouthfeel and finely-grained tannins. It is a medley of red forest fruits, with ripe strawberry, raspberry and cherry mingling with tones of dried herbs, liquorice, tobacco, black pepper and orange peel. It is wonderfully complex and a delight to drink. It will also become even more complex, with some ageing in the cellar. Consider pairing this wine with fine meat dishes, tomato-rich dishes, or eggplant.
