Product Description

FRIARWOOD SAYS. "An exceptional second wine from the stellar 2016 vintage. While its aging potential is slightly less than the grand vin, Les Allées de Cantemerle is ready to be savored now and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next several years.". ABOUT THE WINE. The Cantemerle estate boasts an illustrious history dating back to 1147, with the name “Canta Merla” (blackbird's song) reflecting its rich heritage. The estate first mentioned viticulture in 1354, when Ponset de Cantemerle paid a debt with a tonneau of clairet. As part of the official 1855 classification, the estate has secured its reputation as one of the finest in the Haut-Médoc. Situated near Bordeaux on the southern tip of the Médoc peninsula, Cantemerle produces wines celebrated for their balance, complexity, and elegance. Les Allées de Cantemerle, their second wine, is crafted from younger vines with the same meticulous care and quality standards as the grand vin, offering the estate’s signature style in an accessible format.. TASTING NOTES. The 2016 vintage offers a refined symphony of flavors, showcasing vibrant blackberry, black cherry, and subtle floral notes. Complementary hints of mint, vanilla, spice, and white pepper enhance its complexity, with a smoky, lingering finish. Silky tannins and a rich, aromatic profile provide a classic yet approachable Haut-Médoc claret.. FOOD PAIRING. Perfectly suited to traditional and contemporary pairings, this wine complements dishes like blanquette of lamb, roasted poultry with ceps, or creamed mushrooms in puff pastry. Its delicate nature also pairs beautifully with river fish like pike-perch served with slow-roasted tomatoes and Mediterranean vegetables. For cheese lovers, pair it with aged raw milk varieties like Reblochon.
