Bodegas Franco-Españolas Varela Rioja Gran Reserva 2010/14

Logroño, Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded 134 years ago, managing to thrive even during the Phylloxera plague that devasted many french vineyards in Bordeaux. Frederick Anglade Saurat fell in love with the region and the wines produced here, so founded the winery with the help of local Spanish partners in 1890. Today, the winery has met with International acclaim and claiming an impressive historical legacy spanning the crowning ceremony of King Juan Carlos I from Spain and the wedding of King Balduino and Queen Fabiola from Belgium. Their head winemaker Emma Villajos has over 20 years of experience, and she consistently crafts wines that receive top international awards. The Rioja Gran Reserva is a complex wine with elements of spice and red fruit flavours. It pairs deliciously with grilled meats, sheeps cheeses and pasta dishes.
