The farm changed hands several times until 1990 when it was purchased by J.C.I and re-developed into a renowned vineyard and hotel. Graham Beck acquired Steenberg Hotel and Steenberg Winery in 2005. The Catharina red blend is a complex mix of 50% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, and 6% Petit Verdot. Aromas of basil, cedar, cassis, lavender blossom, cinnamon stick, and dark chocolate are present. Concentrated red and black fruit flavors of raspberry, blackcurrant, and black cherry are evident on both the nose and palate, with a full, smooth texture from the Cabernet Sauvignon component. Herbal notes add a light complexity.
