ABOUT THE WINE. Founded in 1957 by Giuseppe Cencioni and now run by the fourth generation, Capanna is a historic Montalcino estate with prime holdings on the cooler Montosoli slope north of the village. The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 is the pinnacle of the range, drawn from the estate’s best Sangiovese parcels. It underwent a long 30–35 day maceration and matured 36–40 months in small Slavonian botti (10–25 hL) before release – a regime that builds depth, polish and longevity.. TASTING NOTES. Brilliant ruby with garnet hints. Deep, enveloping aromas of dashi, roasted chestnut and dried marasca cherry, with touches of prune and sweet tobacco. As it opens, fresher notes of blackberry lift the nose alongside orris root, sage and lilac. The palate is full yet poised, carrying spiced red-berry fruit over a fine, earth-mineral line; chewy, leathery tannins shaped by long élevage give satisfying grip.
