Located in the prestigious Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa's Western Cape, Warwick Estate is owned by the Ratcliffe family who purchased the estate in 1964, to convert it to vine production in the early 1980s. The estate covers 40 hectares of vineyards and the family purchases the remaining grapes from the Uitkyk Estate vineyard. Warwick Estate is famous for its powerful, full-bodied red wines, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon-based, but also produces other international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinotage, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Chardonnay. The Warwick Estate Trilogy is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Each variety is harvested separately. After fermentation, the wines are aged in French oak barrels for 24 months and blended before bottling. The color is intensely red. On the nose, the wine reveals a complex bouquet with fruity notes of plum and raspberry, blackcurrant, and cassis, interspersed with spices, tobacco, and dried herbs. On the palate, the wine is round and harmonious with a strong and velvety tannic backbone. The finish is long and elegant and recalls hints of wood. Try it with roast meats (especially lamb), game or beef, and aged cheeses.
