Product Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 5 years. No need to decant. Located in Kalmoesfontein in the Swartland wine appellation, the South African winery Badenhorst is owned by cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst, who farm their 28 hectares of bush-trained vines to organic and biodynamic standards to produce natural wines in a traditional manner. The Chenin Blanc grapes, locally called Steen, are sourced from vineyards planted mainly in the 60s. After harvesting and vinification, the wine is left for a short time on the lees in concrete tanks. This step gives the wine more structure and a velvety texture to the palate. Released for the first time in 2009, Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc is a bright-colored wine with light straw tones and light greenish reflections. On the nose, it reveals a fresh and fragrant aromatic profile with notes of stone fruit, pear, and citrus peel followed by floral aromas and a light touch of honey. On the palate, it is round and soft, juicy and balanced with a fresh and invigorating acidity. It has a medium body, good fruit concentration, and a lively and mineral finish. It is excellent with salmon, pork tenderloin with apples and endive, pear and walnuts salad.
