Meyer-Näkel 2019 Spätburgunder S, 75cL WineBy Winebuyers

This Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) was produced from red grapes grown in the Ahr region, between Dernau and Ahrweiler. The vineyards have extremely steep slopes and soil rich in slate and greywacke, providing optimal conditions for Spätburgunder. The fully ripe grapes are hand-picked, producing a yield of about 35-40 hl/ha. Grapes are then gently treated and pressed to produce must. Fermentation and maceration take around 20 days, followed by maturation in barriques (French oak barrels) for 12 months. This dry Spätburgunder has a bouquet of blackberry, elderberry, cherry, raspberry, vanilla, and dark chocolate, with hints of cedarwood. It has elegant tannins, a good structure, and intensity on the palate, as well as a multi-layered aftertaste. At a drink temperature of 15-16°C, this wine pairs well with poultry, light meat, pasta, and mushrooms. It is also an excellent companion to spicy or grilled fish.
