Product Description
Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in 1973 in Napa Valley by Jack and Dolores Cakebread, Cakebread Winery is one of California's most renowned wineries. After starting out with the production of Sauvignon Blanc, the company expanded significantly in the 1990s and is still run by the founders' sons, Dennis and Bruce. The Pinot Noir grapes come from Annahala and Apple Barn vineyards on Anderson Creek, near the Pacific. These former orchards benefit from a cool maritime climate that enhances Pinot Noir aromatics and structure. The grapes are fermented separately and the wine ages 10 months in French oak (35% new). In the glass, the wine reveals an intense, fruity aromatic profile with notes of blackberry and raspberry, black cherry, and ripe strawberry, followed by floral hints of violet and a touch of spice. On the palate, it is rounded and lively, with a pronounced, refreshing acidity and smooth, well-integrated tannins. It has a medium body and a silky texture. The finish is long and recalls the fruity and spicy notes perceived on the nose. Try it with pasta with ragù, grilled duck legs, or turkey with cranberry sauce.
