Strawberry 'Elsanta' is ideal for growing your own exceptionally tasty strawberries, perfect for gardens or patios where space may be limited. These vigorous, dark green plants yield large, orange-red berries with an outstandingly aromatic flavour. With the right conditions, expect 400-500g of fruit per plant this summer. The terrifically tasty berries are ready for picking from mid-June to mid-July, ideal for jam making, delicious desserts, or simply enjoying fresh from the plant. At maturity, plants reach a height of 20cm (8") and spread to 30cm (12"). Plant strawberry runners in autumn or late spring in a sheltered, sunny location with well-manured, free-draining soil. Space plants 45cm (18") apart in rows 75cm (30") apart. Ensure the crown of the plant is just above the surface, spreading the roots as you plant, avoiding planting too deeply to prevent rotting. Alternatively, try growing in hanging baskets or specially designed strawberry planters for the patio.
