This radiant, thistle like flower thrives in even the most parched summers and dries perfectly, making a wonderful addition to dried flower arrangements.Carlina acaulis subsp. caulescens, or Weather Thistle, is a captivating perennial with silvery-white, thistle-like flowers that open in dry weather and close when it rains. This unique behaviour earned it the nickname weather clock. Low-growing rosettes of deeply lobed, spiny leaves are studded with large, starburst-like, silvery blooms that sit close to the ground. Native to alpine regions of Europe, it thrives in dry, well-drained soils – ideal for rock gardens, gravel gardens or wildflower meadows. Ultimate height and spread: 30cm (12in).
