Allium karataviense

This low growing species is quite different to the soaring alliums that hover high on tall stems. A native of the mountains of Kazakhstan, Allium karataviense is perfect for nestling between stones in a rockery, drifting in groups through gravel gardens or along the edges of a sunny border. In May and June, it bears large, globe-shaped heads of starry, pink flowers with darker eyes that are cradled between a pair of broad, glaucous leaves. RHS Award of Garden Merit.
