Product Description

Breathable Cement-Free Fine Finish Skim for Heritage, Listed & Damp-Affected Masonry. Mape-Antique FC Civile is a fine-grained, salt-resistant, breathable skimming mortar designed to create a natural finish on render. It is particularly suited to old masonry, heritage restoration and listed building work, where a compatible cement-free finish is needed over de-humidifying render, transpirant base coats or aged lime-based render.. Formulated from lime, Eco-Pozzolan, natural sand and special additives, Mape-Antique FC Civile produces a plastic, easy-to-apply skim with a natural mineral finish. The TDS specifically highlights its use on buildings of historical and artistic interest, including projects under conservation order or National Trust protection, making it a strong option for traditional and conservation-led refurbishment.. Key Features & Benefits. Breathable: Transpirant skim coat designed to maintain vapour movement through the wall build-up.. Cement-Free: Fine-grained lime and Eco-Pozzolan formulation for more compatible finishing on traditional masonry.. Salt-Resistant: Suitable for walls affected by soluble salts and capillary rising damp when used over the correct base system.. Ideal for Heritage & Listed Buildings: Intended for old masonry and conservation-sensitive projects.. Natural Finish: Creates a fine, traditional-looking finish on render.. Low Emissions: EMICODE EC1 Plus rated for very low VOC emissions.. Internal & External Use: Suitable on walls and ceilings.. Typical Uses. Natural finish skim on internal and external large-grained de-humidifying render.. Finishing coat on transpirant or “structural” base render.. Natural finish on lime-based render deteriorated by ageing or atmospheric exposure.. Suitable for stone, brick, tuff and mixed masonry, including heritage and listed buildings.. Suitable for masonry in lagoon or coastal areas where salt exposure is a concern.. Product Details. Property. Value. Pack Size. 25kg. Colour. White. Coverage. Approx. 1.4kg/m² per mm of thickness. Storage. 12 months in original unopened packaging in a covered dry area. Application Instructions. Substrate Preparation: Surfaces must be clean, sound and free from dust and crumbling material. Mapei also recommends planing new render with a metal-tipped cutter to remove surface laitance and reduce the risk of air bubbles. Always wet the substrate before skimming.. Mixing: Use a clean container and a low-speed electric drill with paddle. Do not mix by hand. Add 6 litres of clean water per 25kg bag, pour in the powder slowly, mix for around 3 minutes, then add more water if needed up to 6.5 litres total and mix again for 2-3 minutes until smooth and thixotropic.. Application: Apply with a flat metal trowel in even coats up to 2mm thick. Press down slightly to improve bond and expel trapped air from the render surface. Additional coats can be applied as soon as the previous layer starts to set.. On Existing Lime or Lime/Cement Render: Mapei recommends two layers with 4 x 4.5mm Mapenet 150 alkali-resistant glass fibre mesh between the coats.. Finishing: Finish with a slightly damp sponge float using a rotary motion before the product starts to set.. Decoration: Only apply paints or coatings once the skim has completely cured. Suitable finishes include Silexcolor Paint or Silancolor Paint with the correct primers. For exposed locations where no coating is needed, Antipluviol S or Antipluviol W may be used as a transparent water-repellent protection.. Important Limitations. Not recommended for structures with high flows of capillary rising damp leading to high concentrations of soluble salts. In those cases, Mapei recommends Mape-Antique FC Grosso or suitable Silexcolor or Silancolor finishes instead.. Only apply over render once the base render is completely cured.. Do not use for casting into formwork, injection slurry or as a render coat.. Do not add cement, lime, gypsum or other additives.. Do not apply decorative finishes that could significantly reduce transpiration and obstruct the evaporation of damp.. Do not apply below +5°C.. Health & Safety. Refer to the latest Safety Data Sheet for full guidance on safe handling, preparation and application. Product for professional use.
