Approximately 5,000 people are injured every year in the UK from using abrasive wheels. No one ever thinks it will be their accident — until it is. Abrasive wheels come in many forms: from angle grinders and pipe cutters, to buffers and sanders. Each one spins a potentially damaging surface at a high speed – so it’s no wonder they can cause harm. It’s essential to use power tools with abrasive wheels carefully and to look after them properly too. So if you want to avoid a trip to A&E, this abrasive wheels training course will help. The Health and Safety at Work Act (1974) requires employers to ensure the safety of their employees, especially when the tools they use are potential hazards. The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (1998) (PUWER) also ensure that employers are doing everything they can to prevent accidents caused by the equipment they’re required to use. This online Abrasive Wheels course helps anyone who uses an abrasive wheel at work to do so safely. You’ll find out about the different safety measures that you can take, the standardised safety features of abrasive wheels, and more top tips to preventing an accident. Who is this Abrasive Wheels course for? Our RoSPA Assured Abrasive Wheels online course has been designed for anyone who might use an abrasive wheel power tool for work on a regular or infrequent basis. This includes property maintenance staff, construction workers, metalworkers, engineers, carpenters, manufacturing operatives and much more. Testing and certification At the end of the course, there is a test consisting of 11 multiple choice questions, for which a pass mark of at least 80% is required. Learners can have as many attempts at the test as is needed at no extra cost. After achieving a pass mark of 80%, learners will be able to download and print a RoSPA assured and CPD approved Virtual College abrasive wheels certificate for their records. Course duration The abrasive wheels training course should take 30-45 minutes to complete, but this depends on how quickly you absorb the training material. Progress is recorded throughout by the Virtual College Learning Management System, meaning you can take as long as you need to work your way through the course.
