Stroke Awareness

The course begins with a review of stroke related statistics and some important facts about stroke. The course then goes onto describe what happens when a stroke occurs and the three main types in detail. What are the risk factors for stroke, which can be divided into two groups – modifiable and non-modifiable? Learn the acronym FAST for identifying stroke signs and symptoms. Learn what you can do to help whilst waiting for the emergency services. Learn how healthcare professionals should work with individuals who have suffered stroke. The course describes what treatments are recommended for the different types of stroke and more about the effects of stroke on the brain. Finally the course explores rehabilitation and professional support for individuals suffering from stroke. Learning Objectives On completion of this course, learners will have a good understanding of and be able to: Define stroke Identify risk factors for stroke Explain how to reduce risk factors for stroke Identify signs and symptoms of stroke Describe how to respond to stroke Explain how stroke is treated and managed Described the impact of stroke on individuals Accreditation The content of this course has been independently certified as conforming to universally accepted Continuous Professional Development (CPD) guidelines.
