What are Omacor Capsules? Omacor contains omega-3 fatty acids. It is used to treat high levels of certain fats called triglycerides in the blood, when diet changes alone havent worked. Omacor Capsules contain active ingredients called EPA and DHA, which are types of omega-3 fatty acids. Antioxidant 4 mg D-Alpha-Tocopherol mixed with a vegetable oil e.g. soya oil. Ingredients Usage How to take Omacor Capsules Always take Omacor exactly as your doctor has told you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Swallow the capsules with a drink of water. You should take the capsules at meal times to help reduce gastro-intestinal side effects. Your doctor will decide how long you should take this medicine. If you are taking this medicine after a heart attack: Take one capsule every day. If you are taking this medicine for high blood triglyceride levels high blood fats: Take 2 to 4 capsules every day. Your doctor will tell you the exact number. Usage Warnings Precautions to consider before taking Omacor Capsules 1000mg 28 Capsules If you are allergic to Omacor or to any of the ingredients in the capsules you should not take Omacor. You should ask your doctor before taking Omacor if: You are taking anticoagulant medication drugs to thin the blood such as warfarin If you have liver disease or You have had surgery or suffered a trauma recently or You are over 70 years of age or You suffer from a renal disease or You are diabetic and your condition is not controlled. If you are in any doubt, ask your pharmacist or doctor for advice. In the list of possible side effects given below, we give an indication of how likely it is that you will get these side effects: common means less than one in ten patients may experience this side effect uncommon means less than one in a hundred rarely means less than one in a thousand and very rarely means less than one in ten thousand patients. Common: indigestion and nausea. Uncommon: abdominal and stomach pain, allergic reactions, dizziness, taste impairment, diarrhoea and vomiting. Rare headache, acne, itchy rash, raised blood sugar, liver complaints. Very rare blood in your faeces, low blood pressure, dry nose, hives, blood changes. The soft gelatin capsules contain a small quantity of glycerol, which can be harmful in high doses. Glycerol can cause headache and stomach upsets and diarrhoea.
