Wander through the famous red gates of Strawberry Field Entering the infamous red gates at Strawberry Field, you’ll immediately feel at peace as you step away from reality. The Beatles legend, John Lennon, used to play on the grounds as a child and the site was a major inspiration throughout his life, particularly for the band’s song, Strawberry Fields Forever. You’ll be met by a stunning exhibition detailing John’s story and the history behind the site. Whether you come with friends or the kids, everyone will feel inspired by the many stories told via the interactive media guide. After a wander through the indoor exhibition – including the actual piano where Lennon composed Imagine – follow in his footsteps as you walk around the beautifully landscaped gardens. Lennon could escape and reflect here as a child, climbing trees and playing with friends. You'll feel a strong sense of tranquillity and an opportunity to leave the pressures of everyday life behind by taking in the fresh green landscapes and wooded forest area. Different quotes dotted around the garden will help you reflect in a peaceful setting. We suggest using the media guide for the gardens to listen to three accompanying songs: All You Need Is Love, Watching The Wheels, and Imagine. You’re also welcome to join the Weekly Prayer Bubbles that have been a tradition since a year before the gates opened. Finish the step back in time with a tasty treat It’s probably taken you an hour-and-a-half to explore the exhibition and beautiful gardens, and a rest stop at the Imagine More Café is probably needed to calm some rumbling tummies. The smells of toasted teacakes and the traditional Liverpudlian scouse with crusty cob bread rolls will bring a warm feeling to your heart as you recap on the extraordinary history you’ve discovered. Strawberry Field is certainly a unique experience. Open to the public since September 2019, it was once a children’s home and later gave refuge to underprivileged children in the Liverpool area. Today, Strawberry Field continues its work to help Steps to Work, a charity helping 18-25-year-olds with learning difficulties to find employment. Proceeds from the gift shop and Imagine More Café go directly to the Steps to Work programme.
